Transparency in the Downstream Petroleum Sector -Group Lauds Reps Committee Chairman

The importance of petroleum products such as premium motor spirit (PMS), automotive gas oil (AGO), aviation turbine kerosene (ATK) etc. to power the economy makes the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry invaluable. The House of Representatives committee on petroleum downstream led by Hon. Akinlaja Joseph Iranola as part of her legislative oversight function has been transparently supporting the Buhari’s administration drive to ensure the steady availability of petroleum products in Nigeria unlike before when scarcity of these essential products were synonymous with the country. Her transparent oversight of the downstream petroleum sector has engineered an environment free of queues in our fuel stations nationwide.
In a press statement made available to newsmen recently in Abuja by a pressure group, Citizens Network for Anti-corruption and Development and signed by the national coordinator, Comrade James Okoronkwo, the group noted that the 8th House of Representatives petroleum committee (downstream) diligent and transparent legislative oversight of the petroleum sector by ensuring that the NNPC efficiently utilizes the various interfaces in the organization that supports the Downstream Strategic Business Units (SBUs)- Crude Oil Marketing Division (COMD), Duke oil and others to work as a team is commendable and historic. This he noted has ensured the steady availability of petroleum products in the country.
Okoronkwo noted that the Hon. Akinlaja Joseph Iranola led committee’s impartial and transparent handling of the alleged breach of the throughput agreement between the NNPC Retail and Capital oil by the latter is worthy of praise.
Concluding, the group urged the National Assembly not to relent in supporting the current NNPC management led by Dr. Maikanti Baru in transforming the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.
