SDP May Not Field Presidential Candidate

Ten days to the Presidential election scheduled for February 16, 2019, the Social Democratic Party, SDP would meet Thursday to consider whether or not it will have its presidential candidate on the ballot.
Sources at the party headquarters revealed that a meeting of the party’s principal organ, the National Executive Committee, NEC would meet  to consider whether or not to field a presidential candidate for the election considering the protracted litigation over its presidential ticket.
Paparrazzimedia sought the views of  SDP’s National Organising Secretary, Hon Emeka Atuma who explained that as at today,  Tuesday  the party has not embarked on Presidential campaigns as two contenders for the position, Messrs Donald Duke and Jerry Gana are still in court  over the ticket.
” The SDP is concerned that 10 days to the Presidential election, it is yet to have a confirmed Presidential candidate. Of course former governor, Donald Duke is SDP’s Presidential candidate today. But Prof Jerry Gana is already at the Supreme Court to contest Court of Appeal judgment which gave the ticket to Duke.
“The thinking of the party is that unless the Supreme Court delivers its judgment within 48 hours, SDP’s NEC will meet to review whether or not it will field a presidential candidate or enter an allliance with a party of similar ideology,” Atuma said.
Atuma further explained that though the party has entrenched its structures nationwide, it may be impossible to transverse the width and length of the country.
