The Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu regrets the incidence that took place in Gombe State where a Corps member’s vehicle failed brake and ran into a procession of Boys Brigade members, killed nine persons and some injured leading to a Mob action thereby lynching the personnel and his friend in the vehicle.
Gana in his condolence message to the family of the bereaved, the Government of Gombe State and the Church members, stated that he regretted the incidence and asked the people to be calm as justice will prevail.
He noted that, the incidence have no religious correlation and that the personnel in question was not on official duty and the vehicle involved was his personal car and cannot be misconstrued to be a planned action. He therefore cautioned against misinterpretation of incidence such as this to avoid mayhem and reprisal attack. He stated that, ‘it’s quite unfortunate and should be termed as an act of God.’
Nonetheless, he had sent delegation of senior officers from the Headquarters led by Dr Emmanuel Adeoye, Deputy Commandant General in charge of Crisis Management to visit and pay condolences to the Government of Gombe State, the Church and the bereaved families.
He has also directed the Forensic Psychology unit of the Corps to work out the timetable for the security profiling and psychological test of all personnel of the Corps against future occurrences.
Apart from the testing to re-examine the psychological and physical stability of personnel, he noted that the Corps will embark in massive training and retraining programs for all personnel irrespective of the Cadre in line with global best practice.
He therefore warned Personnel, to be cautious in dealing with the public as anyone found culpable will be held liable to whatever offence committed as the Corps will not take responsibility for any indecent action of any personnel.
