Still on The Killing of Pa Fasoranti’s Daughter -by Muka Popoola

There have been issues as to whether Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti, who was killed yesterday by unknown gunmen died from the bullets of killer Fulani herdsmen, armed robbers or kidnappers.
Whereas Afenifere spokesperson Yinka Odumakin has attributed the killing to the murderous activities of the nomadic herders, the police have alluded that the unfortunate incident may have been that of kidnappers. At least, the driver of a commercial bus was said to have been taken away by the gunmen and he’s yet to be located, according to the Ondo State Police Command.
For me, I would think that the issue for now is that murder is established. What the motive was is a different thing altogether.
Whether the motive of the late Funke’s assailants was robbery, which is to violently obtain from their victim before things went awry, kidnap with intent to collect a ransom, or assassination of a kind, be it political, business or other reasons, can only be determined when the culprits are apprehended.
The most pertinent issue in this case, therefore, is that the security must do everything possible to get Funke’s killers. As has been aptly described in various quarters, her killing is one too many. It is a classic attack that is capable of inflaming passions and deepening the gulf of tribal distrust in the nation, especially with the frightening colouration by those who are won’t to think that the killers may have been the notorious ones among the Fulani herdsmen.
