NERC to end arbitrary estimated billing nationwide May 1st

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) yesterday held a public consultation as part of efforts to stop arbitrary billing of electricity consumers by the 11 distribution companies (DisCos) following the commencement of the Meter Assets Provider (MAP) regulations on May 1, 2019 nationwide. According to the commission, the event was designed to enable it get the bye-in into its proposal to initiate new regulations that is expected to help improve service delivery as well as improve consumers’ experience. Pirates seize 10 Turkish sailors from cargo ship off Nigeria’s Coast

LAGOS, Nigeria  Pirates have attacked a Turkish cargo vessel off Nigeria, kidnapping 10 sailors, according to a source who asked not be named due to restrictions to speak to the media. The Paksoy-I vessel which had 18 crew members was attacked late Monday off the West African country. The identity of the abducted Turkish sailors has not yet been published. Meanwhile, Turkey’s ruling AK Party spokesman Omer Celik said foreign ministry and intelligence services were ‘intensely working’ on the issue.

Ondo senator afraid to visit hometown because of kidnapping

The senator representing Ondo North district at the National Assembly, Ajayi Borofice, has raised an alarm saying he can no longer visit his hometown as a result of the high spate of kidnapping in the state. INFLATION RATE DROPS TO 11.22% -NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics on Monday said the Consumer Price Index (CPI) which measures inflation rate dropped to 11.22 per cent in June 2019. It is the lowest inflation since July 2018. The NBS disclosed this in its latest inflation report posted on its website. The agency said the inflation dropped by 0.18 per cent points year-on-year basis from the 11.40 per cent recorded in May.
