As Nigeria celebrates it 59th Anniversary as a nation, many Nigerians are analyzing the current situation of the country and examining their leaders saddled with the responsibility of moving the Nation forward.
One of those leaders is Governor Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, a man who is clearly the shinning Star of this generation.
Congratulations are pouring in once again to the energetic, youthful leader of Oyo State just weeks short of the piles of a accolades he received on his 100 days in office.
A staunch supporter and ally of the governor who stood by and believed in him even before he attained national prominence, is PDP stalwart and Afenifere top notch, Businessman, Hon. Dare Adeleke.
In a statement released in the Oyo State Capital, Ibadan, Adeleke commended Makinde for his doggedness in the complete infrastructural developmental and socio -economic renaissance of the state in such a short while he has been governor, stating that these were the qualities those who sought him out to contest saw in him. “Omi Tutun, His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde, in your quest to serve your people, you contested to become Senator and then tried again but God waited for His appointed time. We all saw the greatness, your selflessness, your statesmanship, your tenacity in never giving up and most of all the unbridled, burning fire of love and sacrifice for your people and we knew you were the chosen one. We came for you, I thank you again for accepting the burden of Leadership which we are very proud you have done so well.”
Adeleke in the statement compares Makinde to the great Obafemi Awolowo who “was one of the founding fathers of Nigeria, the greatest leader of the Yorubas: “Indeed non can be like the great Chief Obafemi Awolowo but in you, we see a student of the Awo school of thought, as you continue to walk in the footsteps of the great statesman. Awo’s vision for Nigeria and indeed the Yoruba race had long died but you have resuscitated it and brought back the pride of Oyo. Is it in Education, service to the people, industry, agriculture, peace and security, brotherhood, fairness and truth or transparency? Our Governor, His Excellency, Seyi Makinde has reinforced the fact that it can be done again. The statement reads.
According to Adeleke: “As Nigeria marks it’s 59th birthday, I am more than proud to say the Oyo is on it’s way to greatness. In less than 100 days, we celebrated many landmark achievements.
On gender balance, our Governor, His Excellency Seyi Makinde, appointed the first female Secretary to Government, SSG, Mrs Olubamiwo Fakorede. He encouraged the appointment of Nigeria’s Youngest Speaker, Hon. Debo Ogundoyin and a 27yr-old Commissioner, Seun Fakorede was sworn in. With these, women and youths now have a voice in policy making and formulation while more are being prepared for future leadership by the concerted revamping of the education sector by Governor Makinde.
“Indeed he took the first step by abrogating the education levy of N3,000, he has since commissioned school blocks, provided school books and ensured prompt payment of teachers salaries among others, not forgetting bursaries to Law students”. “Seyi Makinde has proved that governance is not rocket science by paying pensioners, clearing back log of payments and installing prompt payment of salaries to all workers”.
“Boldly, in an unprecedented move, Governor Makinde declared his assets and made the declaration public following Awolowo’s footsteps of total trust and transparency”.
Adeleke stressed that Oyo has become a destination for investors who now troop to the state to take advantage of Makinde’s rejuvenation of the industrial and agriculture sectors.
Oyo has never been so clean, Adeleke further declared.
“I congratulate Nigerians today on our Independence Day, I congratulate the people of Oyo and especially thank the Lord Almighty for giving us a governor who has become the ‘Star Boy’ of governance in Nigeria. With Engr Seyi Makinde, engineering the affairs of our state, Oyo is marching towards greatness and will in a short time be the Port of call for trade, industry, technological break through and a tourism Haven.” He said.
