Apology: Seyi Makinde Has Displayed Rare Statesmanship, shows he is not above the people – Dare Adeleke

Governor Seyi Makinde has been drawing in a lot of support since Wednesday’s unification rally held by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Ibadan and hosted by the governor.
The rally which attracted a huge crowd was organised to re-absorb some former top members of the party who were decamping from the All People’s Congress, APC.
They included ex-governor or Osun State, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
However the good gesture of the governor met with high criticisms from Nigerians who felt the rally was ill thought, given the Coronavirus scare in the country.
While many leaders would ignore the criticisms or defend their acts, Makinde released an apology which has endeared him to even more admirers of his style of governance.

The governor’s statement reads: “I have received your complaints about the rally that was held yesterday, and I feel obligated to state in clear terms that we acted based on the information we had at that time. In retrospect, it should not have happened and I take responsibility for that lapse in judgment.”

He also said his government was doing everything within its powers and working with agencies of the Federal Government to prevent the spread of the virus, revealing the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force to be led by him, will be set up by his government.

Reacting to the whole development, PDP party stalwart and Boss of the Pace Setter Transport, Mr Dare Adeleke says by that act, Makinde has exhibited rare statesmanship.
“Governor Makinde has shown that not all Nigerian leaders think they are above the people. By this single act, Makinde put the people first and humbly addressed their fears”.
“We know of what some other government officials do, reacting in provoking manner when people question them but Seyi Makinde is an exceptional human being, a humble and God fearing leader who does not think he is too big to talk directly to his people in a language they will understand. Some others would send an aide but Makinde talked to the people directly.”
Adeleke thanked the people of Oyo State for sticking with their governor and supporting him as they have always done.
“On our part, we promise to continually work and walk with him in harmony with the people as he continues his determined strides to make Ibadan great again” Adeleke emphasised.
