All Progressives Congress (APC) has begin move to cage Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki amidst his plan to use Infectious law banning political gathering of over 20 persons and ongoing court cases restricting the party from conducting direct primary for Edo 2020 governorship election.
Obaseki reportedly introduced the law to prevent spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state, as Edo is leading in South South Chart with about 700 confirmed cases according to NCDC updates.
Political watchers and APC stalwarts feel the governor was using the State Power to undermine the party and force them to consider indirect primaries as proposed by Edo APC faction loyal to Obaseki.
However, the disqualification of Obaseki and two other aspirants from participating in Edo APC Primaries has given the party opportunity to change their strategy without any resistance.
The APC Leadership has perfected plans to ensure the Suspended Party National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole‘s preferred aspirant, Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu emerged as consensus candidate before June 22 Primaries.
On Wednesday, one of three aspirants cleared APC Screening Committee, Hon. Osaro Obazee announced his decision to step down for the race and endorsed the candidacy of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
Obazee pledged his support, alongside that of his followers, to the former Secretary to the State Government who is widely predicted to emerge as the APC’s flagbearer.
Source revealed that the other aspirant, Chief Pius Odubu may step down before the weekend as APC leadership are compelling to do so in the interest of the party.
Meanwhile, the party NWC under the leadership of Senator Abiola Ajimobi on Wednesday appointed Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma as the head of seven-member committee to conduct direct primary for Edo 2020 governorship election.
