The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), recently conducted a 3-day First Aid training workshop for journalists in Cross River State.
Held at the Metropolitan Hotel in Calabar, the event provided 25 media professionals with essential life-saving skills to address emergencies, particularly those they may face in the course of their work.
Participants received practical training in crucial areas such as CPR, wound care, and injury management. The initiative highlights the importance of First Aid knowledge for journalists, given the potential risks associated with their profession.
Mr. Eni Joseph, Branch Secretary of the NRCS in Cross River State, stressed that First Aid training is vital for journalists because of the dangers they encounter while working.
He noted, “This is the second time we are organizing this training for journalists. Given the risks in your line of work, First Aid knowledge can be extremely helpful in saving lives—whether it’s for your colleagues, family, or friends.”
Daniel Edobor, the lead trainer, guided participants through key techniques such as placing casualties in recovery positions, administering CPR, managing bleeding, handling fractures, and safely transporting injured individuals to hospitals.
At the end of the training, each journalist received an ICRC-certified First Aid kit and a certificate of completion.
