A daring police operation has successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, rescuing 14 victims. Tragically, one of the rescued individuals succumbed to gunshot injuries while receiving medical attention.
The incident unfolded at about 7:55 PM on Sunday when suspected armed bandits launched an attack on two commercial vehicles traveling through Dan’arau village along the Magama Jibia road. According to reports, the bandits fired sporadically and attempted to abduct the passengers.
Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene. The officers engaged the bandits in a fierce gunfight, ultimately rescuing all 14 victims. Two of the rescued individuals, however, sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
Confirming the incident, the Katsina State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, said in a statement: “The Divisional Police Officer of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel. They successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt and rescued fourteen (14) victims. Unfortunately, one of the injured victims passed away while receiving treatment.”
Efforts are underway to track down the fleeing bandits, ASP Sadiq added, assuring the public that the investigation is ongoing. Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Musa, commended the officers for their bravery and swift action. “This operation reflects the gallantry and dedication of our officers. I urge them to sustain this momentum in our fight against criminal elements,” CP Musa said.
He also appealed to the public to support the police by providing credible information about criminal activities, stressing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining security.
The police also distributed relief materials to the rescued victims, expressing solidarity and ensuring their well-being after the traumatic ordeal.
