The Federal Government has declared that Nigerians will enjoy free train and transport services nationwide during the yuletide season.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this announcement on Monday while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“This initiative is aimed at alleviating transportation expenses during the Christmas and New Year festivities,” Idris explained.
According to the Minister, the free transport services will be available from December 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025. “Recall that this also happened during the last Christmas and Sallah periods,” Idris noted.
“Mr. President has approved that from December 20 to January 5, there will be free transport service nationwide. This demonstrates his commitment to cushioning the impact of high transportation costs, especially for the most vulnerable Nigerians.”
He further stated that the FEC expressed its appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his leadership over the past 18 months and reaffirmed its support for his administration’s policies and programmes.
The Council will commence its recess on December 18, 2024, and resume on January 6, 2025.
