The National Vice Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in the South-West, Abayomi Arabambi, has said the party’s leadership, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, has agreed in principle to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
Arabambi made the disclosure during an interview on News Central on Thursday, framing the decision as part of a broader political understanding on power rotation.
“Abure and Governor Alex Otti have all agreed in principle that we will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because this presidency belongs to the South-West, not to the South,” he said. “The arrangement is to allow the South-West to complete its eight-year cycle at the presidency.”
He also dismissed ongoing speculations about a possible return of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the Labour Party, insisting that such a move was no longer feasible.
“Obi can never come back to the Labour Party,” Arabambi said. “We have an agreement, even with Governor Alex Otti, because of the intractable crisis and what has happened in the Labour Party. We have all settled that we will support the second-term ambition of Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu only.”
Arabambi further criticised former Minister of Finance, Nenadi Usman, accusing her of pushing Obi’s return for personal or political interests.
“Nenadi is just an appendage of Peter Obi. She’s only deceiving herself. She wants Obi as our Labour Party presidential candidate, and that is not going to work,” he said.
He urged her to abandon the effort, stressing that the party’s position had already been decided.
“She should perish that thought, no matter whosoever that is sponsoring her,” he added.
