The Kaduna State Police Command has detained a couple in connection with the death of a teenage boy in the Kurmin-Mashi area of the state.
The command’s spokesman, Mansir Hassan, confirmed the development, saying investigations had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
According to Hassan, the incident occurred on Sunday night along Dahiru Road, Kurmin-Mashi. Preliminary findings indicate that the teenager was allegedly punished by his mother and stepfather over money that went missing.
Police said they received reports that the boy had been sent to withdraw cash from a point-of-sale (POS) operator, after which questions arose over the transaction.
“The suspects are currently in police custody while investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the next line of action,” Hassan said.
The command has yet to disclose further details on the cause of death pending the outcome of investigations.
