The Lagos State Government has commenced the removal of illegal squatters and shanties along the Orile–Okokomaiko section of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, as part of efforts to restore order along the busy transport corridor.

The development was disclosed in a repost by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, via his X handle on Monday.

According to the repost, the operation is being carried out by a joint enforcement team targeting makeshift structures erected on the expressway median and other unauthorised locations.

The team is also clearing the affected areas to improve public safety, environmental sanitation, and the free flow of traffic along the corridor.

The repost noted that the exercise reflects the state government’s commitment to maintaining environmental standards and public order across Lagos.

The operation was still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
