A distressing incident unfolded on Monday in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as a four-storey building under construction collapsed at Life Camp, Jabi. Numerous individuals are currently trapped within the wreckage.
The unfortunate event transpired around 4:00 pm while workers were diligently carrying out their tasks at the site. Sources indicate that the ill-fated structure, intended to serve as a hotel, gave way during the casting work, just after the engineer had left.
Eyewitnesses report that the building, situated in a swampy area known as Dape near Berger Clinic, collapsed due to the usage of substandard materials. However, official investigations are yet to confirm this claim.
As the news broke, a rescue operation was immediately launched. The scene was bustling with personnel from various agencies, including the FCT Fire Service, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Nigerian police.
However, it was noticed that the rescue efforts were hindered by the lack of major equipment at the site, which could potentially impact the speed and effectiveness of the operation.
Paparazzi Online observed that officials from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) present at the scene refrained from providing comments to the media.
Their primary focus remained on the urgent task of saving the lives of those trapped under the rubble. At present, the rescue operation is ongoing, with hopes of finding and rescuing the individuals trapped in the collapsed building.
