As I reflect on the state of our nation, I am disheartened by the lack of direction and purposeful leadership. The establishment of a Ministry of Livestock, for instance, seems like a misadventure, and its Pro-North agenda may ultimately backfire. The North faces pressing issues like hunger and insecurity, which can not be addressed by tokenistic gestures like carrot gifts.
Security should be the top priority of a responsible government. I was dismayed by Bashir El-Rufai’s remarks on IMF and World Bank, which seemed like a mere political posturing that won’t benefit Tinubu in 2027. The growing discontent among Nigerians is palpable, with protests against bad governance gaining momentum.
The judiciary’s integrity is also under threat, with questionable appointments like Wike’s wife as an Appeal Court justice and the Chief Justice’s in-law, reminiscent of making a Pope the chief Imam of our central mosque. This abuse of power will have far-reaching consequences.
President Tinubu’s promise to Edo State APC leaders to deliver the state for APC reeks of desperation, and we all know “Edo no be Lagos o”. The PDP leadership must rise to the challenge and confront the double-faced tactics of the ruling party. The National Vice Chairman, South-South, must be expelled without delay. I urge the Acting National Chairman to redeem his image, as many party members, including myself, have lost trust in his leadership.
This is my candid opinion Dare Adeleke writes from Oja Oba, Ibadan. I hope our leaders will heed the call for a better Nigeria.
