A passenger train traveling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, after reportedly missing a point on the track. The incident sparked panic among commuters and their families.
The derailment occurred along the Kaduna corridor shortly after the train left Abuja around 11 a.m. Eyewitness videos showed several coaches overturned, with frightened passengers scrambling to safety.
One survivor described the scene as terrifying, saying people fled in confusion as casualties were recorded, though the exact figures remain unconfirmed.
Security sources say military personnel were quickly deployed to evacuate stranded travelers and secure the area.
As of press time, the Nigerian Railway Corporation has not released an official statement.
The Abuja–Kaduna rail service has faced recurring safety concerns in recent years, including vandalism and terrorist attacks, raising fresh questions about its reliability.
