Residents and commuters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) should prepare for temporary traffic disruptions on Friday as the Apo-Wasa Road will be closed to vehicles between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. due to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s scheduled visit.

President Tinubu is expected to personally commission a major infrastructure project—the newly completed Left-Hand Service Carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway Stage II, which stretches from the Ring Road I Junction to Wasa Junction.

In a statement released on Thursday, Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, confirmed that the road closure is part of measures to ensure security and a smooth event.

“The Apo-Wasa Road, which is to be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu tomorrow, will be closed to vehicular movement between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.,” Olayinka said.

He added, “Traffic enforcement personnel will be deployed to critical areas to ease movement and redirect motorists to alternate routes.”

In a show of cooperation, traders, mechanics, and shop owners in the Apo Mechanic Village have voluntarily agreed to suspend operations for the day.

“The entire area is fully prepared to give President Tinubu a rousing welcome and participate in the commissioning ceremony,” the FCT Administration stated.

Olayinka appealed for public understanding, noting: “We urge motorists to use other routes between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and appeal to all road users affected by this temporary closure to bear with the government.”

The commissioning ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
