The Brutalist

The Brutalist star Adrien Brody recalled a moment during the making of the film when a make-up artist mistook his nose from prosthetic make-up.

He said: “They had to do a prosthetic procedure, and it’s funny – everyone’s very busy, it’s a movie with a lot of moving pieces. I had a new team of people who I had never met, and they were removing this apparatus all over me”.

He continued: “This one woman was busily working away with a solvent on my nose, she’s just working away. I said ‘are you trying to remove that?’ And she said ‘yes’! I said ‘that doesn’t come off!’ Then she says ‘oh I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry’. Then she goes ‘this is going in my diary!’”

Although bemused by the encounter, Brody confessed that he’s glad he has an anecdote for his “talk show repertoire”. The actor is currently looking to secure his second Oscar, after having become the youngest winner of the Best Actor award when he won for 2002’s The Pianist, aged 29.

The Brutalist is competing in 10 categories at the forthcoming Academy Awards, which take place on March 2 in Los Angeles. Recently, director Brady Corbet defended Brody’s performance after it was revealed AI was used to adjust his Hungarian lines.

In January, the actor won a Golden Globe for his performance, becoming emotional as he dedicated the win to his girlfriend, saying: “I would not be standing here before you if it wasn’t for you.”
