With profound sadness, the management and staff of ARISE News Channel announce the passing of our dear colleague, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, fondly known as Sommie. She tragically lost her life in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, following an armed robbery at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja. The incident is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police.
Sommie, aged 29, was a gifted news anchor, reporter, and producer, whose professionalism, warmth, and dedication left a lasting impact on colleagues and viewers alike. Beyond journalism, she was also a lawyer, admired for her intellect, integrity, and generosity of spirit.
Her colleagues remember her as a vibrant presence, a supportive team member, and a cherished friend. To her family and loved ones, she was a beloved daughter, sister, and companion.
Our hearts go out to Sommie’s parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and everyone whose lives she touched. While her voice is now silent, her passion, spirit, and legacy will live on in the memory of all who knew her.
We join in mourning this devastating loss and call for a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
