Matthew Perry

The investigation into Matthew Perry’s death and the proliferation of ketamine in Hollywood is examined in a new documentary.

The Friends actor died aged 54 on October 28, 2023, after being found unresponsive in a hot tub in his Los Angeles home. According to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office, his death was caused by the acute effects of ketamine, with drowning and coronary artery disease listed as other factors.

Five people were charged in connection with Perry’s death in August 2024, including doctors Mark Chavez and Salvador Plascenia, the actor’s assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, former rehab program director Erik Fleming, and so-called “ketamine queen” Jasveen Sangha.

Chavez, Fleming and Iwamasa have all pleaded guilty to drug charges. Both Sangha and Plascencia have pleaded not guilty, with a trial set for March 4, 2025.

The circumstances around Perry’s death are explored in documentary Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, which unpacks his final days and the subsequent investigation.
