Chelsea have shattered the transfer record for a player of his age by purchasing 13-year-old South African prodigy, Camden Schaper from Blackburn Rovers’ Under-14 side for a staggering £700,000 fee.
The Blues successfully fended off interest from Manchester City to secure the teenager’s signature in what is believed to be the highest ever sum paid for a player born in 2012.
Schaper enjoyed a phenomenal 2024–25 campaign with Blackburn Rovers U-14s, netting 45 goals and providing 65 assists. His remarkable output, averaging more than a goal involvement per game, has drawn comparisons with some of football’s brightest young talents and convinced Chelsea’s youth managers of his extraordinary potential.

“It’s rare to see such a complete attacking skill set in a player so young,” said Chelsea Academy Director Emma Richards. “Camden’s vision, technique and end product are way beyond his years. We’re thrilled to welcome him to our development programme and look forward to nurturing his talent.”
Camden Schaper, who moves to Cobham immediately, will join Chelsea’s Under-14 squad and benefit from tailored coaching, education support, and access to the club’s state-of-the-art training facilities. His arrival underscores Chelsea’s strategy of investing heavily in youth prospects to build the foundation for future first-team stars.

Blackburn Rovers’ academy head, Michael Thompson, paid tribute to the youngster’s dedication: “Camden’s work ethic and humility have been outstanding. While we’re disappointed to lose such a talent, we’re proud to have played a part in his journey and wish him every success at Chelsea.”
