Lagos, Nigeria – Emami Ajetsibogho, also known as “Warri Kinsman” and the younger brother of prominent Niger Delta leader and politician Chief Ayiri Emami, was arrested on June 25, 2025, by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Lagos State Command. He was apprehended for allegedly smuggling 414.2 kilograms of cannabis sativa.
Paparazzi Online reported that the illicit substance was found concealed in numerous bags, sealed within white and black nylon sachets. Ajetsibogho, who hails from Warri South, is reportedly an influential figure in his community and has a history of allegedly evading previous arrest attempts.
Sources close to the investigation allege that the NDLEA is deliberately delaying the announcement of Ajetsibogho’s arrest due to his strong family ties to Chief Ayiri Emami. “The NDLEA is covering up the case of Emami Ajetsibogho caught with drugs because he is a brother of the former Niger Delta militant, Ayiri Emami,” one source claimed.
“That is why NDLEA has not been quick to announce his arrest the way they announce other arrests; it is because of his brother’s influence.”
SaharaReporters has confirmed that Ajetsibogho remains in NDLEA custody as the investigation continues. Efforts to reach Femi Babafemi, spokesperson for the NDLEA, for comment were unsuccessful.
This arrest comes shortly after President Bola Tinubu publicly congratulated Chief Ayiri Emami on his 50th birthday in April. In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu lauded Chief Emami’s dedication to national development, specifically highlighting his contributions to peacebuilding, the protection of vital oil and gas assets, and the promotion of unity and stability in the Niger Delta.
The President also acknowledged Emami’s efforts in consolidating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State and his “steadfast loyalty” to the Tinubu family.
