Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox

Lisa Kudrow has said that Courteney Cox used her sitcom knowledge from her brief time in Seinfeld to help the Friends cast give a better performance.

There was some overlap between the two beloved sitcoms, which both revolved around a group of friends in New York City. Seinfeld aired between 1989 and 1998 while Friends was on TV between 1994 and 2004.

Cox guest starred in season five of the former show in the episode ‘The Wife’, playing Meryl, a woman who dated Jerry Seinfeld.

Speaking on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast, Kudrow said Cox was “so smart” in passing on her wisdom from Seinfeld.

“She was also the one when we were first shooting the pilot would say: ‘Listen y’all, I did Seinfeld. They help each other all the time. If you think I could be doing something funnier, tell me. You’ve gotta tell me. We need to help each other out,’” she said. “That set a tone which carried through the whole ten years for us.”

Late last year, Kudrow surprised fans of the show by visiting the famous Friends couch on the Warner Bros. lot.

Kudrow also shared that she grew “irritated” with the live audience while filming the hit show for laughing too long at things that weren’t funny, and that she had been rewatching the series “to remember” Perry, who died last year at the age of 54.

In other recent Friends news, David Schwimmer has said he once served Rod Stewart divorce papers when he was working a temporary job in his university days.

“One summer after my freshman year in college, I was just looking for work,” Schwimmer recalled on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. “And my mum said, ‘Well, you can be a process server for me’. My mum was a divorce lawyer.”

He continued: “So I was the guy who would pop out of the bushes and serve you divorce papers. At the time I was 18, and I’m like James Bond. I’m not James Bond! ‘Cause you’re tipped off as to where they might be.”
