Oyo PDP chieftain, Hon. Dare Adeleke, has faulted Friday’s judgment by an Abuja High Court stopping the PDP National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Oyo State.
Court documents show that the plaintiffs had alleged irregularities in the preliminary arrangements, claiming that due process was not followed by the National Working Committee (NWC) in convening the convention.
In a phone interview with our reporter, Adeleke described the ruling as “an aberration,” insisting that it holds no legal weight.
“It is an aberration and does not hold any water because the Supreme Court has already given a judgment affirming the supremacy of a political party in managing its internal affairs,” he said.
According to him,
“The judgment by Justice Kolawole Omotosho in Abuja cannot supersede the Supreme Court ruling and the judge knows this. Frankly, the hurried manner in which this judgment was delivered is highly suspicious. Justice Omotosho may have been compromised. His decision is nothing short of an affront against the democratic process.”
Adeleke further noted that the party leadership had already clarified that the judgment does not invalidate the ongoing processes leading up to the convention.
“The party has issued a statement affirming that the ruling does not vitiate its ability to proceed with preparations for the National Convention to elect new national officers who will pilot the party’s affairs for the next four years. Therefore, the convention will hold as scheduled,” he said.
He accused certain disgruntled members of attempting to derail the party’s unity and progress.
“These disruptions are being engineered by aggrieved and disloyal members who want to hold the party by the jugular, people who sold their birthright but still want to be kings in the kingdom. It’s not possible. They will not succeed this time. The PDP is not anyone’s private property, least of all those who set the house on fire and fled, only to return seeking ownership,” he declared.
Adeleke added that the PDP remains focused and undeterred.
“You cannot have one leg in and one leg out and still dictate terms. They’ve lost out through greed and perfidy and should let the party breathe,” he said.
He concluded confidently:
“The National Convention will hold, and the PDP – Nigeria’s strongest and most credible opposition party, will be fully prepared for the 2027 elections.”
