The International Olympic Committee has announced that “dog diving”, also known as “dock diving”, will debut as a demonstration sport at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

In this high-energy event, dogs sprint down a 30-foot dock and leap into a pool, competing in distance, height, and style. The competition will be held at Venice Beach’s newly upgraded aquatic center, with international teams and trained handlers vying for top honors.

Over 20 nations have expressed interest, including the U.S., Germany, Canada, and Japan. American dog Astro, a Belgian Malinois, is already making headlines with 23-foot jumps, while Germany’s retriever Bella is turning heads for her form and grace.

Strict animal welfare protocols are in place, with IOC-appointed vets ensuring all dogs are fit and stress-free. “Dogs are athletes too,” said Dr. Ingrid Fischer, head of the Olympic canine commission.

Fans are buzzing online with #DogDivingOlympics trending globally. Organizers will monitor its reception ahead of a potential full inclusion in future Games.

While no official medals will be awarded, commemorative prizes will celebrate the canine competitors, making LA 2028 not just a showcase of human excellence, but a celebration of man’s best friend.
