DStv subscribers may face a significant shake-up in their viewing options as MultiChoice — now under the ownership of Canal+ — risks losing the rights to broadcast 12 popular channels by December 31, 2025. This development hinges on ongoing negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery, which have yet to be finalised.
If the talks fail, DStv will be forced to drop a wide range of well-loved channels from its lineup, including Discovery Channel, TLC, Cartoonito, Cartoon Network, CNN International, Food Network, The Travel Channel, TNT, Investigation Discovery, Real Time, HGTV and Discovery Family.
The potential blackout has raised concerns among subscribers who rely on these channels for news, entertainment, lifestyle programming and children’s content. MultiChoice has not issued a formal update, but industry watchers say the coming months will be crucial in determining whether the broadcaster maintains access to some of its most recognisable content brands.
