The Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Ekiti (CTC), has slammed a heavy axe on the government of Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State.
In a recent statement, Adeleke described Ekiti as experiencing “the rumblings of a volcano waiting to erupt.”
In his statement, Adeleke said:
“It is with worrisome irritation and anger that the people of Ekiti now view the APC-imposed governor of their state, Governor Biodun Oyebanji; a leader who has become the oppressor of his people.
Things have fallen apart so badly that the center can no longer hold – apologies to William Butler Yeats and Chinua Achebe, two great authors who captured the beginnings and cataclysmic effects of chaos in society.
Indeed, the Arrow of God has pierced the very nerve of Ekiti State as myriads of protests rise against the cruel and draconian policies of Oyebanji’s government.
Traders and market associations are uniting as a force to fight against increased taxes; an unfortunate and heavy burden tied around their necks like shackles of slavery by the APC.
While the few in government gluttonously feed fat on the sweat of the common people, they remain oblivious; or deaf to their cries.
Indeed, from the time of Ayo Fayose till date, development in Ekiti has been the slowest in Southwest Nigeria. All institutions are either crippled or near comatose. It is not surprising that Ayo Fayose’s vocal brother, Isaac Fayose, concerned about the consistent impoverishment of his people by various regimes since 1999, despite the funds pumped into the state; painfully raised this question:
‘Have you ever sat down to examine the resources that have come to Ekiti since 1999 and compare them with the state’s infrastructure development? Have you ever considered the rise of past government officials from poor backgrounds to super-rich status? Do you understand the proverb that slaves love their chains?’
These questions, raised by Ayo Fayose’s own blood brother, reveal just how dire the situation is. But where he got it wrong is in assuming that the people are docile. On the contrary, Ekiti people are preparing for a thorough showdown in the coming weeks as the volcano continues to rumble with market and street protests.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) lacks initiative, lacks vision, and lacks a blueprint for development. Instead, it depends on yoking the people with all kinds of taxes. Is that not the same strategy that tore the land of Israel in two when the children of Israel shouted with one voice: ‘To your tents, O Israel! Now look after your own house, we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse’? Just like Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, Oyebanji is set to lose Ekiti come 2026.
The people have rejected the APC in Ekiti, and this fact is so glaring that ex-Governor Fayemi is now on an apology trail. In a recent statement, Fayemi admitted that the APC has failed Nigeria. His befuddling confession revealed that the APC’s protests against President Jonathan were politically motivated. He affirmed that the APC was insincere in calling for protests. In other words, they lied.
Known for spreading falsehoods and stirring the hornet’s nest just to gain power, the shenanigans of the APC know no bounds, which is why Nigerians today gnash their teeth in regret.
The people of Ekiti must be on the lookout for the APC’s usual lies and evil strategy of seizing power by force. They must muster enough willpower to oust the oppressive, shamefully corrupt, nepotistic, and morally bankrupt government of Biodun Oyebanji. Their freedom is in their hands, and they must continue to resist oppression.”
