The Federal Government has generated approximately N2.4 billion in 2024 from marriage contracts processed through its registry, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed on Tuesday.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, the minister highlighted the revenue growth from various services offered by the Ministry of Interior.

“Through the marriage registry, we recorded a revenue of N2.4 billion in 2024. This underscores the increasing compliance with legal marriage documentation in Nigeria,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated.

In addition, the ministry recorded over N3.2 billion in revenue from expatriate quota applications, reflecting a 150% increase in total revenue generation compared to previous years. “This is a remarkable improvement. The reforms we have implemented are yielding positive results,” he added.

Beyond revenue, Dr. Tunji-Ojo also revealed that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) repatriated 828 foreigners in 2024.

While he did not provide specific details about their offences, he confirmed that the deportations were carried out as part of immigration enforcement measures. “These repatriations were done in accordance with due process, ensuring that immigration laws are upheld,” he affirmed.

The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing service efficiency and transparency within the Ministry of Interior’s operations.
