The governing body’s Disciplinary Committee ruled that SAFA breached Article 19 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and Article 14 of the World Cup Preliminary Competition Regulations. As a result, South Africa’s 2-0 victory has been overturned, with Lesotho awarded a 3-0 win.
In addition to forfeiting the match, SAFA has been fined CHF 10,000, while Mokoena received an official warning. The decision was formally communicated on Monday, with SAFA given ten days to request a detailed ruling. The case remains open to appeal before FIFA’s Appeal Committee.
The sanction has reshaped Group C of the African qualifiers. Hugo Broos’ side, previously three points clear, now drop behind Benin, who top the group following the deduction.
