Former Senator for Adamawa North, Elisha Abbo, has reportedly turned himself in to the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja following a grave accusation – the alleged rape of a 13-year-old secondary school student.
The victim’s parents allege the incident took place on June 29, 2025, at Abbo’s residence in Katampe, Abuja. The family further claims that following the alleged assault, Abbo repeatedly attempted to cover up the scandal by allegedly sending money to the victim’s father in exchange for silence.
In a stunning complication, the girl’s parents also claim that former senator and 2023 Adamawa governorship candidate, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as “Binani,” visited their home to persuade them against publicizing the matter.
Police sources confirmed Abbo is currently being detained and interrogated at the FCID headquarters. A senior police officer assured reporters, “The matter is under thorough investigation, and no stone will be left unturned.”
This is not Abbo’s first brush with serious controversy. In 2019, he drew nationwide condemnation after a viral video showed him assaulting a saleswoman at a sex toy shop in Abuja, an incident that prompted a Senate disciplinary probe. More recently, he was also accused by a married woman of allegedly attempting to blackmail her with a sex tape.
The latest allegation has ignited an outcry from civil society groups, child rights advocates, and women’s organizations demanding immediate justice. The Executive Director of the Child Protection Network, Lagos Chapter, called the case “a test case for Nigeria’s criminal justice system,” urging the police to resist political influence.
Abbo, who lost his Senate seat in 2023, has become more known for scandals than legislative work. His arrest is rapidly fueling demands for swift prosecution across social media platforms.
As of the current time, neither Abbo nor his legal representatives have issued an official public statement regarding the allegations
