A widely circulated video has captured a heated altercation between officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Command, and a man alleged to be a police officer. The confrontation erupted after the officer reportedly opened fire on an FRSC official, who is now in critical condition.
The incident occurred during a crackdown on counterfeit number plates, an enforcement operation spearheaded by the Lagos Sector Command of the FRSC.
Speaking on the matter, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, who was overseeing the operation, urged the public to remain patient as investigations continue.
“We are still working to establish the full details of what transpired,” Hamzat told reporters. “At this point, we cannot confirm the officer’s identity or whether he is affiliated with the Nigeria Police Force.”
As of now, the Lagos State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the altercation. Meanwhile, the viral footage has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding both the shooting and the FRSC officers’ response.
