Comrade Grace Ike, the newly sworn-in Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, led her executive members and well-wishers in a heartfelt Thanksgiving service on Sunday at the Word Harvest Church in Karu, Abuja. The gathering was a special occasion to dedicate their victory and the successful conduct of the recent election to God.
The service, according to a press release signed by the Secretary of the Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, was a moment of gratitude for God’s guidance and a request for continued wisdom, understanding, and knowledge in leading the NUJ FCT Council.
“I return all the honor and adoration to God for His faithfulness,” Ike said during the service, reflecting on the challenges she faced. “It was turbulent, it was tough. They said a woman cannot lead. This is the first time a woman has become the chairman of NUJ after 43 years. My emergence is truly a divine intervention, ordained by God.”
The service was presided over by Archbishop Leonard Kawas, along with other ministers, who offered intense prayers for God’s guidance, favor, and blessings upon the new leadership.
The occasion was a milestone in the history of the NUJ FCT Council, with Ike making history as the first female chairman in over four decades. Other executive members in attendance included Vice Chairman Comrade Yahaya Ndambabo, Secretary of the Council Comrade Jide Oyekunle, and Treasurer Comrade Sandra Udeike.
This special service was a moment for the new leadership to dedicate their tenure to God, express their gratitude, and seek divine guidance for the journey ahead.
