Grand Theft Auto 6 Switch 2

Grand Theft Auto 6 could be getting a Switch 2 release, according to publisher Take-Two.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was never released for the Nintendo Switch and GTA 4 never came to the Wii – but according to the boss of Take-Two, the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 could be coming to the Switch 2.

Nintendo unveiled the bigger, more powerful Switch 2 last month, with the console expected to be released at some point this year. As it stands, no games have been confirmed for the Switch 2 but there are plenty of rumours that franchises like Halo, Gears Of War and Call Of Duty could come to the new console.

“I just always applaud the moves that [Nintendo] make,” said Xbox boss Phil Spencer. “I’m really looking forward to supporting them with the games that we have.”

Now Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two Interactive, has said they’re going to support the Switch 2. “We’ve had a long-standing relationship with Nintendo. We’ve supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release,” with several Borderlands games released on the Switch alongside WWE 2K and NBA 2K titles.

“There was a time when Nintendo platforms were geared at younger audiences, that was reflected in our release schedule. Today, with Switch and potentially with Switch 2, the Switch device can support any audience,” he added during the earnings call (via VGC).

Nintendo hasn’t confirmed a release date for the Switch 2 but has announced a special Direct presentation will take place at the start of April ahead of a series of hands-on test events for fans around the world.

The release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 is still up in the air. Despite rumours of a delay, Take-Two has said it will launch later this year. “Look, there’s always a risk of slippage and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things,” Zelnick said about sticking to the schedule, but added: “We feel really good about it.”

Last week, EA suggested that the new Battlefield game could be delayed to avoid clashing with Grand Theft Auto 6’s release window and earlier this year, it was reported that several games had been delayed due to the game’s unconfirmed release date.

In other news, gaming fans have gone wild over the PlayStation-inspired stage design of Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.
