Grimes has shared two previously unreleased demos – listen to ‘I Don’t Give A Fuck, I’m Insane’ and ‘The Fool’ below.

The Canadian artist (real name Claire Boucher) posted the pair of new tracks on her official Soundcloud profile over the weekend.
“You think I’m too crazy/ So what, so what, so what, so what?” she sings over a punky riff on ‘I Don’t Give A Fuck, I’m Insane’, which dates back to February 2019.
Writing on X/Twitter today (February 25), Grimes explained: “Just for good vibes we put up a few ancient demos on SoundCloud 2day – 2019 demo I made.
“Obviously no time was spent on it but my old manager at would always pester me to finish it and make it a banger but I forgot I suppose. Def has a lot of potential tho I’ll probably make a better topline and produce it one day.”
Over on her Instagram Stories feed, she said: “I’m sorry my album is taking so long – as penance here is a 2009 demo that probably should have been finished. I always promise yall the demos – they’re just little ideas started but nonetheless.”

As for ‘The Fool’, Grimes explained that she had written a song over the instrumental for Mazzy Star‘s classic track ‘Fade Into You’, “but the files are forever lost on my laptop that a child poured liquid on”.
“It was just a rly beautiful jam on a poem I wrote I wish I didn’t get discouraged away from it,” she added. “Obviously it’s too compressed and a nightcore but idk – it’s all that’s left.”
Grimes had previously shared the lyrics to the intimate ballad on the eve of the 2024 US Presidential election. The track includes the lines: “Oh you’re a fool/ ‘Cause you tried to give me the moon/ And all I can give back is poetry,” an apparent reference to her ex Elon Musk.

Grimes, whose latest album ‘Miss Anthropocene’ arrived in 2020, has long been teasing an upcoming two-part record titled ‘Book 1’ and ‘Book 2’. She has also shared plans to release a prelude EP called ‘Fairies Cum First’, and released a single from the project named ‘Shinigami Eyes’ in 2022.
Early last year, Grimes posted a teaser clip of her working in a recording studio. “Sorry I’ve been gone so long,” she said at the time. Excited to get back to work!” In 2023, the singer and producer said she was “making music for the first time in ages and I forgot this is very fun”.
She had previously provided an update about the status of ‘Book 1’, but indicated that music was no longer the main priority in her life by calling it a “side quest”.
In other news, Grimes has called out her former partner Elon Musk on social media for allegedly “ignoring” their child’s “medical crisis”. Last week, she criticised Musk for parading their son X around the Oval Office as Trump signed an executive order in front of cameras.
Grimes clarified her stance on Musk‘s controversial Nazi-like gestures at Trump‘s Presidential inauguration last month.
