Security operatives are conducting stop-and-search operations on vehicles entering the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Our correspondent learned on Monday, July 29, 2024, that military and police personnel have established roadblocks on the Abuja-Keffi and Abuja-Lokoja roads, causing significant delays in vehicular movement in these areas.

Residents of Kubwa, Dutse Alhaji, Maraba, and Bwari also reported an unusually high number of security vehicles patrolling their neighborhoods.

The security agencies have not yet provided reasons for the increased presence of operatives and roadblocks. However, it is speculated to be related to the proposed nationwide protests scheduled for August 1-10, 2024. The protests, organized by various groups and activists, are in response to the economic hardship faced by citizens.

Last week, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, stated that the nation’s capital was not available for protests. To support his stance, Wike mobilized Abuja youths and other stakeholders, urging them against joining the planned demonstrations.

He explained that the initiative aimed to enlighten them on the negative impacts of protests and why they should refrain from participating.

The acting spokesperson for the Presidential Guards Brigade, Olokodana Odunayo, promised to provide further information to our correspondent.
