Nigerian media personality Omotunde Adebowale-David, popularly known as Lolo 1, has bravely shared that she was sexually assaulted by a colleague in the broadcasting industry six years ago — an experience that continues to affect her emotionally.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Say My Piece podcast, Lolo opened up for the first time about the trauma, revealing the deep psychological scars she still carries.
“I’ve never told anyone this before,” she said, her voice trembling. “I was sexually assaulted by someone I worked with, someone in this industry. It happened six years ago, and I still see this person regularly. Every time I do, it’s like I’m reliving it.”
The actress and broadcaster explained that her silence was largely due to fear — fear of being judged, blamed, or dismissed. “I didn’t come forward because I knew people would ask why I waited so long. But the truth is, the shame, the self-blame, the fear… it’s paralyzing.”
Lolo also revealed that her abuser has since gained prominence in the media space, making it even harder for her to speak out. “I’m scared of the backlash,” she admitted. “He’s now someone powerful. If I name him, will anyone believe me? Or will I just be seen as bitter?”
Despite not naming her attacker, Lolo’s candidness brings to light the emotional toll that sexual assault can take, long after the incident. Her story echoes the struggles many survivors face — not just in dealing with the trauma, but in confronting a culture that often silences them.
“I’m speaking now because I need to heal,” she said. “And maybe someone out there will hear this and feel less alone.”
