Qom, Iran – In a swift and calculated operation that has rattled Tehran’s power structure, Israel has confirmed the assassination of Saeed Izadi, the newly appointed commander of the Quds Force’s Palestinian Division within Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The airstrike occurred less than 24 hours after Izadi assumed his new position.
Izadi was killed in an overnight Israeli airstrike that targeted an apartment complex in the holy city of Qom. The precision strike is being described as one of the most significant Israeli operations against Iranian military leadership in recent times.
Confirming the development, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant called the operation a decisive blow against Iranian support for terrorism.
“Izadi was directly responsible for supplying weapons and funds to Hamas in preparation for the October 7 massacre,” Gallant stated. “This was justice. Israel’s reach is long, and anyone who threatens our people will be held accountable.”
The assassination of Izadi follows closely on the heels of the killing of his predecessor, Maj. Gen. Mohammad Kazemi, in another Israeli strike just days ago. Kazemi had himself taken over from a previous Quds Force intelligence chief who was also assassinated in recent months.
This string of targeted eliminations has left Iran’s elite Quds Force reeling, with three top intelligence commanders wiped out in succession, a development analysts say is likely to severely disrupt the IRGC’s coordination with proxy groups across the Middle East.
Iran has yet to issue an official response, but sources within the regime have described the situation as a “growing leadership vacuum” within one of the most strategic arms of the Iranian military apparatus.
