The Warri Refining & Petrochemicals Company (WRPC), located in Warri, Delta State, has resumed operations, producing at a capacity of 125,000 barrels per day.
This was confirmed on Monday by Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), during an official visit to the facility.
Speaking to members of a tour team, Kyari emphasized the significance of the refinery’s revival, stating, “We are taking you through our plant. This plant is running. It is not 100 percent yet, but we are still in the process. Many people think these things are not real, that such achievements are impossible in this country. We want you to see that this is real.”
Also present during the tour was Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), who commended the progress made at the refinery.
The recommencement of operations at the Warri Refinery is seen as a significant step toward enhancing Nigeria’s local refining capacity and reducing dependence on imported petroleum products.
