Kanye West shared that he now follows Taylor Swift on Instagram, adding another layer to their seemingly ongoing feud.
Before the 67th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 2), the rapper and fashion mogul – who now goes by Ye – revealed on his Instagram story that Swift was now the only person he followed on the platform.
“1 following,” he wrote, sharing a screenshot of his Instagram page with his 20.6 million followers. TMZ then reported that Ye had indeed unfollowed everyone bar the ‘Midnights’ singer – including his wife, Bianca Censori, who made headlines at the Grammys for showing up in a see-through dress.
It’s a strange move given their acrimonious history, which famously dates back to the 2009 VMAs.
During Swift’s speech for winning Best Music Video at the awards show, West interrupted the then 19-year-old to announce: “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!” West apologised shortly afterwards to Swift.
He initially condemned his actions, by stating: “I would not want some crazy drunk rock star cutting my daughter off also.” However, he seemingly backtracked with the admission that: “My daughter would 100-percent also be like, ‘Yes Beyonce did have the best video.’ That’s what my daughter would do.”
The pair did seem to make amends at the 2015 Grammys, but things quickly soured when West released his ‘Famous’ song and video. There, he rapped about how Swift “owes” him sex and claimed that he “made that bitch famous”. Additionally, he portrayed her nude in bed (via a wax figurine) with a host of other celebrities.
Swift later claimed that she was “horrified” by the visuals, and went on to write about the debacle in 2017 album ‘Reputation’. The incident also triggered a dispute with Kim Kardashian, West’s former wife.
In 2023, the singer discussed her feud with the reality TV personality about when the phone call she had with West to discuss ‘Famous’ leaked online, saying it “took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before”.
Swift also made headlines following the 2025 Grammys, as fans were shocked to find she walked away empty handed – the first time the star has ever been snubbed when she had six or more nominations.
