An 18-year-old bus conductor was brought before the Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, accused of assaulting a bus passenger and forcibly knocking out two of his teeth.The defendant, Azeez Balogun, whose place of residence was not disclosed, has been charged with assault.
According to the prosecuting officer, ASP Raji Akeem, the incident occurred on June 24 at Ile-Epo Bus Stop, Abule Egba Road, Lagos.Akeem stated that the complainant, Mr. Shina Olarewaju, boarded a commercial bus in Lagos from Ile Epo to Abule Egba when a dispute erupted over N100.00 in change.
The prosecutor explained that the defendant forcefully dragged the complainant from the bus, physically assaulted him, and forcibly removed two of his teeth. Additionally, the defendant tore the complainant’s clothing.
The prosecutor pointed out that these actions contravene Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.In response, Chief Magistrate Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi granted the defendant bail in the amount of N20,000, requiring two sureties to provide the same sum.
The case has been adjourned until August 8 for mention.
