Lily Allen and Fred Again..

Lily Allen has responded to a theory that it’s her voice and Fred Again..’s on e.motion’s AI viral dance hit ‘Somebody Else’.

The mystery dance track was released by e.motion and soon went viral after being played by the likes of BBC Radio 1 and more. The music outfit later revealed that their debut track was generated by AI and music fans around the world have been speculating about who the voice in the track was – with Lily Allen and Fred Again being two of the top suggestions.

As yet, it’s not clear if the voice is an AI version of Allen’s or Fred Again’s voice or if it has been recorded by another musician entirely.

Today, BBC Sounds shared a clip of Allen discussing the track with friend and co-host Miquita Oliver as part of their Miss Me? podcast.

“The AI version of you is taking over the charts!” Oliver says, commenting that it was “just everywhere,” before Allen responded.

“My cousin Gracie was like, ‘Oh my god you’ve got a new song out with Fred Again’ and I was like ‘No I don’t!’ Allen explained.

Expressing her surprise at the song, Allen said: “I don’t think it sounds like me to be honest! But lots of people do!”

Allen also went on to say: “We don’t know if it is a real person singing or if it is indeed an AI version of my voice.” Oliver went on to ask Allen if she was “okay with that being out in the world and people thinking it’s you.”

Allen replied: “It’s just bizarre. e.motion if you’re listening would you get in touch…I want [them] to tell us who it is and if it is my voice AI-ed or if it is a real person.”

Recently, Allen opened up about her journey of “accepting pain” and how she may potentially get a tattoo in honour of that message following her split from David Harbour.

News of the couple’s separation after four years of marriage was reported earlier this month. Allen and Stranger Things actor Harbour began dating in 2019 after meeting on the dating app Raya and tied the knot in a Las Vegas ceremony in September 2020.

Allen recently revealed that she went into a treatment centre to deal with her “emotional turmoil” after the spilt.

Speaking to co-host Oliver on the duo’s last Miss Me? podcast episode, the ‘Smile’ hitmaker expressed her interest in getting a new tattoo that highlights the message of “accepting pain”. The inspiration came from her latest read which was on “self-compassion.”

“It really stood out for me and I might even get it as a tattoo, it was ‘suffering x pain = resistance’,” she told Oliver. She continued: “You have to sit with the pain and confront the pain and accept the pain.”

Allen added: “Love the pain, caress the pain, you got to be like ‘This is painful’ it’s OK for things to be painful and for you to feel pain, bat it away. If you’re batting it away, you’re resisting it and that is the cause of your actual suffering.”

The singer-songwriter previously took a temporary break from Miss Me? and other work commitments to focus on her mental health. “I’m really not in a good place,” Allen told co-host Miquita Oliver on an episode of the podcast last month. “I know I’ve been talking about it for months, but I’ve been spiralling and spiralling and spiralling, and it’s got out of control.”

Meanwhile, Allen and Oliver are set to bring their Miss Me? podcast to a live audience for the first time in March. In other news, Allen has revealed that she is “trying to manifest” getting a new album “out by the end of the year”.
