Inhaler have shared a new single called ‘Billy (Yeah Yeah Yeah)’ – you can listen to it below.
The track serves as the final preview of the Dublin band’s third album ‘Open Wide’, which is due for release tomorrow (February 7) via Polydor (pre-order/pre-save here).
“Billy, his eyes are like headlights/ Can’t see in the window/ Of his fast car/ She’s the stoplight/ Not turning red or green/ She’s gold and she’s honest/ Don’t justify the reason/ Or lie for a promise,” sings frontman Elijah Hewson in the groovy, ’80s-tinged track.
Per a press release, the infectious and upbeat song “further showcases a band thrillingly coming into their own and taking their sound in audacious new directions”.
‘Billy (Yeah Yeah Yeah)’ is accompanied by a lo-fi, VHS-style official lyric video. Tune in here:
Inhaler’s latest offering follows the recent singles ‘Your House’, ‘Open Wide’ and ‘A Question Of You’.
Speaking to NME last October, bassist Robert Keating explained how the group had entered new territory on their third record.
He said: “While working with Tom Hull [Kid Harpoon], our producer for this album, we began thinking, ‘How can we make this a little different?’, which led us to try out different stuff and we eventually ended up doing the intro keyboard thing one day [on ‘Your House’], which re-informed the song and made us view it in a new way.
“He also had the idea of trying to get the gospel singers in and that was just one of the songs where it worked really well.”
Keating continued: “We’ve definitely gotten better at writing songs. We worked with a new producer on this album for the first time. Working with him made us realise that we had to bring our ‘A’ game and that, in a sense, was the kind of the only pressure we did deal with throughout the whole thing. Just knowing that we had to bring it and be the best versions of ourselves.”
Hewson added: “He was from outside the circle and was a fresh listener of the band, he didn’t know us.”
‘Open Wide’ follows on from 2023’s ‘Cuts & Bruises’ and 2021 debut ‘It Won’t Always Be Like This’.
Inhaler are set to embark on a UK headline tour tomorrow, with the stint including a sold-out show at London’s O2 Academy Brixton. They’ll then play a run of dates in Europe, where Blossoms will support.
On May 30, the band will perform a huge homecoming gig at St. Anne’s Park in Dublin. Find any remaining tickets (UK/Ireland) here.
