The Chairman-Elect of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, has donated a borehole to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, reaffirming his commitment to grassroots development and closer collaboration with the media.
The gesture was announced on Thursday when the NUJ FCT Council Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, paid him a congratulatory visit following his victory in last Saturday’s municipal elections. She was represented by the Council’s Vice Chairman, Yahaya Ndambabo.
Speaking during the visit, Ndambabo thanked the chairman-elect for the warm reception and described the borehole donation as a clear demonstration of his dedication to community development and partnership with the media.
“This well-deserved victory reflects your people-oriented leadership, now further demonstrated by this generous donation to the NUJ FCT Council,” Ndambabo said.
He congratulated Maikalangu on what he called a landslide victory, noting that the outcome showed the confidence and trust residents of AMAC have in his leadership.
Ndambabo also highlighted key infrastructural projects executed during Maikalangu’s first term, particularly in Sabon Lugbe and other communities, and reaffirmed the NUJ FCT Council’s role in monitoring and providing coverage for elections across AMAC and the five other area councils in the FCT. He urged the chairman-elect to consolidate on his achievements as he begins his second term.
Responding, Maikalangu expressed gratitude to the NUJ FCT Council for the visit and for what he described as consistent media support.
“Politics is local; it is about the people at the grassroots, not just the city centres,” he said. “Our first-term projects laid the foundation for renewed public trust, and we will continue to build on that.”
He attributed his re-election to sustained grassroots engagement, infrastructural development, and empowerment initiatives that resonated with the electorate.
Maikalangu also commended the unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that effective grassroots mobilization played a key role in the high voter turnout recorded during the elections.
According to him, the borehole donation underscores his resolve to promote collaborative development and maintain strong engagement with critical stakeholders, including the media.
