Abuja, Nigeria – Muhammed Babangida has confirmed his acceptance of the role as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), firmly denying earlier media reports that he had rejected the appointment.
In an official statement released on Monday, Babangida expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him, describing the appointment as an honour and a call to national service.
“The claim that I turned down this appointment is entirely false and malicious,” the statement read. “Such misinformation appears to be a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and undermine the integrity of the administration.”
Babangida emphasized his commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s efforts to revamp Nigeria’s agricultural sector and strengthen institutional leadership. The statement reiterated his gratitude and affirmed his readiness to serve.
It also warned that those behind the misleading reports would be identified and held accountable. “We will pursue all necessary steps to uncover the sources of these fabrications. Accountability, truth, and unity remain our guiding principles,” the statement added.
Babangida urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify news from credible channels, especially in the age of rampant misinformation.
His appointment forms part of a broader strategy by President Tinubu’s administration to reposition key institutions for greater national impact.
