Abuja – Tragedy struck once again on Friday at Karu Bridge, inward Karu Site in Abuja, as a cement-laden truck reportedly lost its brakes while descending the Kugbo Hill, plowing through multiple vehicles and killing several people.

Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos and devastation.

“It was horrifying. The truck just kept coming down the hill like it had no control. It crushed everything in its path—cars, people. We saw bodies everywhere,” said Musa Ibrahim, a commercial motorcyclist who witnessed the incident.

According to a Paparazzi Online reporter who was at the scene, the truck attempted to flee after the crash but was intercepted around Karu Roundabout by a group of enraged commercial motorcyclists.

“People were shouting, some were crying. The truck driver tried to run but the okada men chased and stopped him. It was like a movie,” the reporter recounted.

This is the second major accident on the same stretch of Karu Bridge in just under a month. In March 2025, a similar crash involving a Dangote trailer powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) also resulted in multiple fatalities when the truck failed its brakes.

Residents are calling for urgent government intervention to address what they now see as a recurring death trap.

“Karu Bridge is turning into a killing zone. How many more people have to die before something is done?” questioned Ruth Okoro, a nearby resident and mother of two.

Paparazzi Online reports that the Karu Bridge has become a hotbed for fatal accidents, raising serious concerns over road safety measures and enforcement in the area.
