Natalie Portman is on board to star in a new rom-com written and directed by Lena Dunham.

Good Sex, which currently has no confirmed release date, is set to be the latest in a string of films exploring age-gap romances, following on from the likes of this year’s Nicole Kidman-starring Babygirl.

Portman will star as a successful couples’ therapist named Ally, who is freshly out of a decade-long relationship and nearing 40.

Her best friend encourages her to enter New York City’s dating scene, where she “finds her life pulled in opposing directions as she falls into a steamy fling with a 20-something Brooklyn hipster just as she begins a promising, more conventional relationship with Alan, a successful 50-something in Manhattan,” per the synopsis shared via Deadline.

It continues: “As a romantic crossroads blossoms into a full-blown identity crisis, Ally juggles to keep these two very different men separate and to make sense of her own conflicting desires before she risks losing them both.”

Portman and Sophie Mas will produce through their company, MountainA, alongside Dunham and Michael Cohen under their studio Good Thing Going. In other Natalie Portman news, she’s also due to appear in The Gallerist, an upcoming film by Cathy Yan (Birds of Prey).

She joins the star-studded cast alongside Jenna Ortega, Charli XCX, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Sterling K. Brown, Zach Galifianakis, Daniel Brühl and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The film follows a desperate gallerist who conspires to sell a dead body at Art Basel Miami, and is currently in pre-production and set to shoot at the end of this year.

Elsewhere, last year the actress revealed what she believes is among her “most important” ever roles.

Despite picking up three Oscar nominations in her prestigious career – for CloserBlack Swan and Jackie – it was her cameo in an episode of the beloved family animation Bluey, named ‘Whale Watching’ that she named her favourite role.

“I was a narrator of a nature documentary that they were watching,” she explained of her role in the show. “It’s a very important show for my family and I was really, really honoured to get to be part of it.”
