New Girl actor Peter ‘Navy’ Tuiasosopo has died, aged 61.
The actor, also known for his work on Street Fighter and The Fast And The Furious in a career that spanned 30 years, died this morning (February 12).
The news was posted online from Tuiasosopo’s family and in a statement, the actor’s son, Manoah Peter Tuiasosopo, said: “With a heavy heart, my family and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Our father Peter N. Tuiasosopo passed away this morning at 3:16 am.”
A cause of death was not initially given in the post but his son later told TMZ that his father had died after suffering from heart complications.
He added: “My dad lived an amazing life and in no way does his impact stop here,” he wrote. “His strength, love, compassion, and kindness will forever be felt.”
“We will continue to live with him in spirit, and as saddened as we are, he is without a doubt in Heaven with his brothers, sisters, parents, daughter, and Jesus, and no longer in pain.”
The statement continued: “My family and I will discuss the decisions regarding a proper Celebration of Life and will announce the details once prepared. We thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers and ask for your continued support through this tough and emotional time.”

Peter “Navy” Tuiasosopo will be remembered by most for Necessary Roughness and Street Fighter.
I’ll remember him as a San Pedro staple who came back and coached, laughed and spoke to the kids that others wrote off. Blessings to the Tuiasosopo family

Tuiasosopo was born in San Pedro, California, in 1963 and initially began his career in American football after playing in both college and professional football leagues. He later signed to the Los Angeles Rams in 1987.
His acting career began in 1991 with a role in sports comedy team Necessary Roughness. He then went on to make his television debut in 1993’s Danger Theatre playing a detective opposite Adam West.
Other notable roles include his part as Big Bob in New Girl and in the 2001 movie The Fast and the Furious alongside Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.
Other film appearances included A Perfect Getaway, Batman & Robin, Charlie’s Angels, Austin Powers in Gold Member and The Scorpion King.
His last credit was in 2018, for the crime drama Mayans M.C.
