Abuja, Nigeria – November 19, 2024:

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has presented its 2024 Humanitarian Report, themed “Reflection, Resilience, and Recommitment to Humanitarian Service.”

The report, unveiled during the Society’s Annual General Meeting in Abuja, highlighted achievements in disaster response, health preparedness, youth empowerment, and future goals.

Speaking at the event, the President of the NRCS, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, praised the collective efforts of volunteers, donors, and partners. “Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization,” he said.

“To our donors and supporters, thank you for believing in our mission. Together, we will continue to serve humanity with dignity, efficiency, and compassion.”

Key Achievements in 2024

1. Flood Response Initiatives

In collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the NRCS supported thousands of flood-affected families in Adamawa, Anambra, Oyo, Kebbi, Kogi, and Rivers states. Relief efforts included distributing food items and constructing 12 water boreholes to ensure access to clean water.

2. MPOX Preparedness

To combat the MPOX outbreak that affected 26 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the NRCS partnered with the Norwegian Red Cross and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to train trainers, enhancing the country’s health emergency preparedness.

3. Borno Flood Response

After severe flooding in Maiduguri, the NRCS raised ₦6.7 million in three weeks and provided relief items worth ₦100,000 each to 1,850 affected households.

4. Hunger Crisis Fundraising

The Society launched a ₦2.5 billion fundraising campaign to address hunger and malnutrition. While the full amount was not raised, the initiative strengthened partnerships for future humanitarian efforts.

Held in Agbor, Delta State, the inaugural youth camp highlighted the NRCS’s commitment to nurturing young humanitarian leaders. Delta State Governor Elder Sherriff Oborevwori opened the event, emphasizing the role of youth in sustaining humanitarian impact.

Charting the Future

The report presentation also addressed the challenges posed by climate change, health emergencies, and disaster management. Prince Adeaga reiterated the NRCS’s focus on innovation and collaboration to better serve vulnerable communities. “Our core values of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality remain our guiding principles,” Adeaga emphasized.

The NRCS ended the event with a renewed determination to amplify its impact in 2025 and beyond, pledging to continue its mission of saving lives and building resilience in communities.
