Obi is on His Own! Imo Labour Party Distances Itself from ADC Coalition

The Imo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has distanced itself from reports linking former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating clearly that it has no intention of following him to any new political platform.

Speaking to Daily Sun, LP State Chairman Calistus Ihejiagba reaffirmed the party’s independence and commitment to its foundational ideals. He acknowledged Obi’s role in energising the party during the 2023 general elections but insisted that the Labour Party’s future does not hinge on any single individual.

“Labour Party remains firmly established in Imo State, we’re not moving anywhere,” Ihejiagba stated. “We are focused on strengthening the party because it is and remains the genuine voice of the people.”

Obi’s recent association with the ADC has fuelled speculation about potential defections and the weakening of LP structures, particularly in the Southeast. But the Imo LP leadership has downplayed such fears, assuring members of their resolve to rebuild and fortify the party across all levels.

Ihejiagba further noted that the wider political coalition within the LP is united in its mission to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
